This site is designed to provide information for beginners and practiced fencers alike.
Our first beginners course started in January 2005 and the club was formed soon after. In 2006, needing a larger venue, the club moved to Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. In July 2013, due to the redevelopment of the hall at the National Water Sports Centre and the need for an even larger hall to continue the development of the club, we took up residence at Clifton Leisure Centre and increased our club hours to allow adult members to train twice a week. In September 2020, when re-opening after the COVID-19 lockdown, we took the difficult decision to move once again. The club is now based at the Portland Leisure Centre, Muskham Street, Nottingam, NG2 2HE.
We fence in a large well lit salle, with at least four electric pistes each week plus room for more. There are showers / changing rooms, and vending machines for food and snacks at the centre.
We are a three-weapon club with opportunities to train and compete in foil, sabre and epee. Beginners' Courses concentrate on foil and there are short introductory courses in sabre and epee for members once a year. You can find more details of the course and an enrolment form on the Beginners page.
At club level there is a monthly training fee of £25.00 (concessions and Juniors £20.00). There is a guest fee of £5.00 (concessions £4.00) per session. Guests must be individual members of the BFA for individual insurance purposes and must contact the club in advance to book in if they wish to fence. These fees cover hall costs, maintenance of club kit etc.
All joining fencers above beginners' level are required to affiliate with the British Fencing Association. Fees and details of benefits can be viewed by clicking here.
